Serving skin care patients from Salem, Roanoke and Cave Spring, VA
There are many ways you can restore your skin's youthful appearance. But if you are looking for a highly effective method that doesn't require surgery, then photo rejuvenation may be exactly what you need. At The Center for Plastic Surgery at Ridgewood Hill, our Medi Spa specialists use either broadband light (multiple wavelengths) or laser therapy (single wavelength) to enhance the appearance and quality of your skin. With these techniques, we are able to offer premier results to our patients from Salem, Roanoke, Cave Spring and other cities in and around Roanoke Valley.
What is BroadBand Light (BBL™)?
BroadBand Light (BBL™) is a safe and noninvasive photo rejuvenation technology that improves the signs of aging on the face, neck, arms and hands. Our treatments in Salem result in a consistent, visible improvement of the skin with no downtime, little discomfort and minimal risk.
Photo rejuvenation via BBL™ produces a broad beam of highly concentrated light to treat facial redness and flushing or skin discoloration from aging and sun damage. This light is filtered to a wavelength that is selectively absorbed by the target tissues with minimal effect on surrounding tissues. Irregularities such as pigment marks, small blood vessels or clusters of blood vessels will naturally absorb a lot more light energy then the surrounding skin, resulting in less brown spots or fewer blood vessels near the surface.
Photo rejuvenation treatments with BBL™ are performed in our Salem office. The full procedure typically requires four to six sessions of about 20 minutes each, performed at approximately three-week intervals.
SkinTyte™, another photo rejuvenation treatment using BBL™, is designed to warm the deep layers of your skin, causing more collagen to form and resulting in increased firmness. There is essentially no down time with the procedure.
What is ProFractional™ therapy?
To refresh your skin, ProFractional™ therapy helps air brush fine wrinkles, reduces the appearance of pores and diminishes scarring of the face. The photo rejuvenation procedure uses a special laser to remove micro-channels of damaged tissue, which prompts your body to produce more collagen as part of the natural healing process, thereby building up your skin. Depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment, there is a down time of three to seven days.
What is MicroLaserPeel™?
A MicroLaserPeel™ uses a special laser to precisely remove the top layers of skin, giving a smoother overall appearance. These peels will go beyond a microdermabrasion, but they are not as aggressive as full skin resurfacing. Sometimes, we treat our photo rejuvenation patients in Salem with a combination of MicroLaserPeel™ and ProFractional™ therapy, which effectively targets both the deeper skin and the surface irregularities.
Who should consider BBL™ photo rejuvenation?
BBL™ photo rejuvenation treatments are ideal for patients who want a more consistent tone to their skin. These procedures have virtually no downtime and a very low risk of side effects. Treatments can be performed on any part of the skin, but are commonly used to correct areas of the face, neck, chest, arms and hands. The men and women who undergo the treatment in our Salem office are usually looking to remove age spots, sun-induced freckles, benign brown pigments or redness caused by enlarged capillaries.
If you have a suntan, it is advisable to wait until you are back to your base color before undergoing photo rejuvenation. Treating tanned skin increases the possibility of unwanted side effects, such as pigment (color) changes, especially if the target is the brown pigmentation. Also, you should not be pregnant or nursing. If you are using or have used Accutane®, you must have finished this medication for at least six months before any treatments.
Who should consider ProFractional™ or MicroLaserPeel™ treatments?
Anyone who is noticing fine wrinkles, enlarged pores or scarring of the face could be a candidate for a series of ProFractional® treatments. Since this photo rejuvenation procedure helps encourage growth of collagen in the deeper skin, it is often combined with a MicroLaserPeel™ that addresses the surface of the skin for a combined effect. The procedures are usually repeated three to four times, spaced six to eight weeks apart, but can be done repeatedly to achieve more results.
What can I expect from my BBL™ photo rejuvenation treatments?
After your first treatment in Salem, your skin will initially be very pink for an hour or so. The brown spots will look darker and scattered. You will usually see less red after photo rejuvenation for veins. Both treatments for red and brown will likely need to be repeated to get the best results.
What can I expect from ProFractional™ treatments?
Depending on how aggressive your treatment is, you will have a three- to seven-day downtime where your skin is a little tender and rough. You will not be able to put on make-up until the rough skin is shed. You will then tend to be pink for a while, during which time you can apply make-up. The pink phase can vary.
What can I expect from a MicroLaserPeel™?
There will be a few days of downtime, depending on how deep and aggressive your photo rejuvenation treatment is. Your face will be tender, and you will need to keep an ointment on while the superficial skin heals. A typical light MicroLaserPeel™ can be done on a Friday, and by Monday you can put makeup on, with skin that already feels smoother with a nice glow.
