Liposuction in Roanoke, Virginia
Liposuction is one of our most widely requested body contouring procedures for patients in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas including Salem, Blacksburg, Lynchburg and West Virginia, looking to eliminate excess fat from various areas of the body (neck, arms, abdomen, backs and legs).
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from different areas of the body to improve the contour and appearance of the targeted area. This is an effective body contouring procedure to eliminate pockets of fat, which remain despite diet and exercise. Following liposuction, patients enjoy their improved physical appearance with natural-looking slimmer contours. The areas that most often receive liposuction include:
Possible Benefits of Liposuction
- Improved body contours
- Sculpted physique
How is Liposuction Performed?
Although there are several methods of liposuction, Dr. Wray prefers tumescent liposuction using tiny incisions where she injects the targeted areas with a saline solution to loosen the fat cells. The fat cells are further loosened with a special tool, and then the excess fat is removed with suction cannulas of various sizes to create more natural contouring. This helps flatten bulges with minimal scarring. The result is a new shapelier, contoured physique.
Preparing for Liposuction
To prepare for liposuction, you and Dr. Wray will meet to discuss the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have. Additionally, it may be necessary to do the following:
- Medical check-up and lab tests
- Stop smoking and the use of all nicotine products at least two weeks prior to surgery
- Stop taking any vitamins and nutritional supplements at least two weeks before surgery
- Stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs two weeks prior to surgery
- Make at-home preparations for post-surgery recovery
- Arrange for someone to transport you to and from the procedure as well as stay with you that day and night
Following surgery, you will wear a compression garment that helps to control swelling and compress the skin as it adapts to the new contours of your body. There will be some bruising and swelling that usually begins to resolve itself within a few days to a few weeks.
Swelling from liposuction typically diminishes within a few weeks. The full results become fully visible within a few months. It is important to note that liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle nor is it a way to treat obesity. Because it simply “spot reduces” fat from specific areas of the body, there is minimal weight loss. Additionally, it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle, as liposuction does not permanently prevent weight gain, although it does change body proportions.
How much does Liposuction Cost?
Liposuction varies in cost from patient to patient depending on the areas to be treated and the extent of the procedure. During your initial consultation with Dr. Wray, we will discuss the procedures to achieve your goals, and the cost involved. We accept cash and major credit cards including VISA®, MasterCard® and Discover® as well as offer financing options through CareCredit®. It is important to note payment is required in full prior to cosmetic procedures.
Is Liposuction Right for Me?
Liposuction is ideal for those who maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen but still have unwanted bulges and bumps that seem to remain with the best of efforts. It is best to be at a normal, healthy weight prior to having liposuction, however slightly overweight patients can benefit from it.
