Injectable Fillers- Sculptra®, Radiesse® & Juvéderm®

Botox, Collagen, Captique and Collagen fillers in virginia, roanoke, salem va

What are injectable fillers?

The skin’s support structure is composed of various components including collagen, and elastic fibers. Over time, aging, smoking and environmental factors weaken and destroy natural proteins like collagen, causing wrinkling and sagging of the skin. Injectable fillers are substances that are injected directly into or under the skin to increase fullness and reduce wrinkles and lines. Injectable fillers are one of the latest less-invasive cosmetic techniques that can give instant results in less than an hour.

What problems can injectable fillers help improve?

Injectable fillers can help reduce age lines, wrinkling, scarring from acne, crow’s feet (laughter lines) and other facial imperfections. In addition, injectable fillers are used to plump and enlarge lips and to treat ‘hollowing’ of cheeks. They can also be used to help improve the tired look some people develop over time.

What injectable fillers does Dr Wray use?

Juvéderm®
Juvéderm® is a synthetic hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in skin, tendons and muscles of all mammals. It is made of the same basic material as Restylane®, but it is cross-linked differently and usually will last longer. It is a clear gel that is most often used in and around the lips, and in more superficial wrinkles of the face, including the area between the brows. It will usually last about one year, and results are immediate.

Radiesse®
Radiesse® is another filler that is a synthetic and based on calcium-based microspheres. It is a white gel that is used deeper in the face, to help with the tired, drawn out look some people get with aging. Radiesse® will last about a year and results are immediately seen.

Sculptra®
Sculptra® is an innovative filler that allows for more fill in different areas of the face and will last for about two years.
Sculptra® is also a synthetic filler, but acts differently than Radiesse® or Juvéderm® in that the results are not immediate but will slowly build up over a period of time. Sculptra® is poly-L-lactic acid and is injected as fine little particles suspended in sterile water. The desired result may initially be seen at the time of injection, but will disappear as the sterile water is absorbed. As collagen is generated, the fill slowly returns. Sculptra® is usually placed in 3 separate sessions, about 3 months apart, and will last for about two years. It allows for improvement in the cheeks, temples, around the mouth and chin.

Who is the ideal candidate for injectable fillers?

You may be a candidate for fillers if you have wrinkles, flattened areas, hollows in the face, or if you desire more fullness of your lips. Dr Wray will evaluate your face and give you options for how to rejuvenate your skin and face. These may be both surgical and nonsurgical, so you have choices on how to proceed with your facial rejuvenation. We also have a master aesthetician, Melissa Miles, who can help you with your overall skin needs.

What will you see after injectable fillers are placed?

The areas treated may be a little red and puffy for a few days after injections, this will vary depending on what areas are injected. The area around and in the lip are more prone to swelling. If Juvéderm® or Radiesse® are used, improvement is usually seen immediately. If Sculptra® is used, because of the nature of this product, the end result will actually be gradual over 3 months.

How long do injectable fillers last?

Juvéderm® and Radiesse® will last approximately a year, and Sculptra® can last 2 years, with studies showing that some patients still have 80% of their filler present at 2 years.
